Cubby (Elliott) from Southport, Connecticut~

Hi Sue,

Always so wonderful to read your email back to me. I hope you and your husband...all your children, dogs and pups are all well. You will have a busy summer with all the new babies on the way!! It was one year ago around this time of year that I found your website. It was Godsent and lead me to my new boy through you. It is still hard for me to recall that time during my life. The loss of my beloved pet for the previous 13 years left a huge hole in my heart...words cannot describe.
Now that Cubby is a year old and has been with us 10 months, it is hard to imagine not having him with us.

He definitely is a part of our family and loves the beach life. We let him run loose during low tide and watch him run like the wind. He goes in the water and often puts a crab or shell in his mouth to show off. He is a character. My brother has two cockers that he brings over to the beach house and it is a show watching the three of them having fun at the beach. All the beach children join in and it is heartwarming scene. I live for this time of year!!

Thanks again Sue for staying in touch through your website and blog. I usually check in every few days to catch up. It is a fun site and means so much since Cubby came to me from there.

Have a great summer!!

All The Best,

xxJoanne and Cubby

Miss Michigan Contest...with Bonny and Betsy from L'Anse, Michigan~

Dear Momma Sue,
We are sending you a picture of our Daddy Syd's granddaughter Elizabeth. She is our favorite girl and she was in this here beauty pageant for Miss Michigan. She is the one on the far right with her knee sticking out! Ain't she a beautiful human-bean? She didn't get to wear the pretty crown, but Momma Sharon says she came in 3rd runner up. What's a runner up Momma Sue, do you know?
Anyway, Daddy Syd and Momma Sharon are both real pround of their granddaughter human-bean and we loves her too much to care if she wears a crown.....when we see her she gives us pretty nice hugs and tickles.

We love you,

Hello Mama Sue,

I just wanted to tell you today was my third birthday. It is hard to believe I was ever that small. Mommy told me how small I was when I was little, but I have turned into a nice size boy, and that I am beautiful. Do you remember my newborn picture that I am sending you? My birthday was really nice, I got a brand new toy. You should see it....I really like new toys. Mommy says it is a tree with little squirrels in it, and I can pull the squirrels out of their holes in the tree. I will send a picture later of me playing with my toy. I really liked the pink tissue paper it was wrapped in. I still like paper and tearing it up, but Mommy watches me real close so I cannot do such things.

Well I just wanted to tell you about my birthday and also I want to wish a Happy Birthday to my brothers, and sisters. Yes, I still remember them, and of course my doggy Mommy Daisy and Daddy Cubby. I will always love them and you Mama Sue, and all My High Calling Cockers Family.

Love always,

Sparky

Gracie and Mandie from Missouri City, Texas~

Sue, I'm sure you've given up on me sending pictures of my girls, but here I am trying again-- hoping this works. The first 2 months after Mandie came I was sure my new name was poop lady. Ha. A 2 month old and 4 1/2 old puppy do not have the same potty time, beside not being able to remember who went when, yes it was a lot of fun. Can't tell you how much we love these little girls and they are a hit in our part of Texas. Everyone loves them--they are so beautiful and sweet. I hope you have kept one of Flower's and TicTac's puppies, our Mandie is beautiful. She's more red on her back with cream legs and white head. She's beautiful. Of course the princess (Gracie) is still asking us why we bought bossy to live in her house. Yes, Gracie is laid back and that Brazilian pup is always wanting what Gracie has, my attention and well, she's the boss. It's like she's always saying "what about me?". I could eat them both up, they are so cute!

Gracie turned 1 on June 18th and wanted you to see how beautiful they both are.  Sophie and Cubby sure make pretty pups!
1st picture is the birthday girl. They had sweet potato ice cream for the celebration. Gracie is probably wondering if Mandie will share when her birthday comes up in August. Ha.
2nd picture is when Gracie first came to us and she just cracked us up with her jumps. What was really funny was seeing Johnny jump so she would chase him.
3rd picture is Sydney sleeping with Gracie on floor. Sydney really did fall asleep. Cute huh!

4th picture just makes me want my babies back. Gracie was asleep on my lap and lil' Mandie had to be a part of it. Can't believe they stayed asleep.

5th picture are my girls now. Gracie is 1 yr and Mandie (on floor) is 9 1/2 months.
Gracie weighs 19 1/2 pounds and Vet says she's grown. Mandie weighed 18 pounds in May. They have both been spayed and we had chips put in-not that they are ever out of my sight. Love my girls and thank God for your High Calling Cockers, what a blessing you bring to so many.

Think of you often and hope new grandbaby is doing great. He must be about 6 months old. Also, I'm not sure what happened to Mike, but I'm still praying for him and you. I'm not on computer as often anymore, (because of my girls) but I know something happened in January.

Cubby (Elliott) from Southport, Connecticut~

Hi Sue!

Our Cubby boy has turned one year old this weekend.  We had a big family birthday party for him along with a Father's day celebration for all the dad's. We let Cubby eat cake and took him to our favorite ice cream parlor for his own vanilla cup. We all love him and are grateful to you. Here are a few of his latest photos.

Emily from Quincy, Massachusetts~

Hello Mama Sue,
Can you believe it has been a whole year since you gave me to Mommy & Daddy, on that hot summer

day in New York.
They tell me I was a real little peanut back then. . .NOT SO NOW...I am a big girl, very long, very

athletic, very lovable and still VERY MUCH MISCHIEVOUS. I am sending you a couple of then and now pictures.

June 2010 - when I first came home and June 2011 - home from the groomer's with my new short summer do.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES.

The third picture is of my brother, Tim, and me. He is my most prized possession. I love him

more than tennis balls, and you know how much I love tennis balls.

Have to say good-by for now, I just heard my neighbors, Kaylee and Madison calling for me to come out and play in the backyard.

Love to you Mama Sue,

Your Little Emily

"Archie" and "Toby" from Fleetwood, Pennsylvania~

Hi Sue,

Your irises are beautiful! I love the variety of colors I know that you will be very busy very soon with all of the new litters that are due. Hopefully, you will have healthy puppies so that no one has to go without their awesome little cocker puppy!

My boys have been busy. Last week, Archie attended dog class with Toby as they went to a Reading Phillies game. Then the next night my hubby and I took only Archie along to another Reading Phillies game as they allowed dogs to sit anywhere in the stadium as long as they had a dog ticket. We had great seats right behind home plate. Toby did not go because he is just not sure about other strange dogs invading his space. He is great once he gets to know the other dog and have had no issues with him so next year when he is more mature he will attend like Archie does. This week Toby's class went out to eat at a local diner! He was great, just laid on the floor by the table and you would not have known he was there. The other day, Toby did find a nest of black ants on our sidewalk. He had to investigate of course as any good cocker spaniel would do. He ran to the back door looking like he had been eating an Oreo cookie but the "crumbs" on his mouth and in his long floppy ears were ants and not "crumbs"! He just looked at me as I picked each ant off of him, almost as if to say "sorry, mommy, I did not know what they were".

I hope that all if well with your family and pray that you are all healthy and happy.

Love

Kathy

Grapes and Raisins are toxic to dogs~

I know I have posted this before, but it's worth reading again to keep your dog safe~

If you have a dog ... PLEASE read

this and send it on!

If you don't have a dog,
please pass along to friends who do.

This week I had the first case in history of raisin
toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was
a 56-pound 5 yr old male neutered lab-mix
that ate half-a-canister of raisins sometime
between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday. He
started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking about
1 AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't call
my emergency service until 7 AM (6 hrs later).
I had heard somewhere about raisins AND
grapes causing acute Renal failure but hadn't
seen any formal paper on the subject. We
had her bring the dog in immediately. In the
meantime, I called the ER service at MedVet,
and the doctor there was like me - had heard
something about it, but... Anyway, we
contacted the ASPCA National Animal Poison
Control Center and they said to give IV fluids
at 1 & 1/2 times maintenance and watch the
kidney values for the next 48-72 hours.
The dog's BUN (blood urea nitrogen) level was
already at 32 (normal less than 27) and his
creatinine was over 5 (1.9 is the high end of normal).
Both are monitors of kidney function in the
bloodstream. We placed an IV catheter and
started the fluids. Rechecked the renal values
at 5 PM and the BUN was over 40 and creatinine
over 7 with no urine production after a liter of
fluids. At that point I felt the dog was in acute
renal failure and sent him on to MedVet for a
urinary catheter to monitor urine output overnight
as well as overnight care.
He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet
and his renal values continued to increase
daily. He produced urine when given lasix as a
diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting
medications and they still couldn't control his vomiting.
Today his urine output decreased
again, his BUN was over 120, his creatinine was
at 10, his phosphorus was very elevated and his
blood pressure, which had been staying around
150, skyrocketed to 220 ... He continued to vomit
and the owners elected to Euthanize

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners
who had no idea raisins could be a toxin.
Please alert everyone you know who has a dog of
this very serious risk.
Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could
be toxic. Many people I know give their dogs grapes
or raisins as treats including our ex-handler's. Any
exposure should give rise to immediate concern.
Chocolate, cocoa, onions, avocadoes and macadamia nuts can
be fatal, too. Add to this - rising bread dough, caffeine and alcohol
and you have the list of the greatest food dangers for dogs!!
NOTE: Even if you don't have a dog, you might have friends
who do. This is worth passing on to them, for further sharing!
Thanks again to everyone, for getting this word OUT!

Drummer Boy from Grand Junction, Colorado~

Hi, Sue!

Dolly's puppies are SO cute! I'll be praying for the perfect home for little

Franklin. It's never a girl that's left - it's always a boy! LOL!

We're enjoying some warm weather now. It sure took it long enough to get here!

Now we're dealing with flooding since all of the snow is melting. The snowpack

this year was way above normal, so the Colorado River is much higher. The

runoff is also very late this year. The river usually peaks in May, but we're

just now hitting the peak. Like other areas in the country, the flooding is

reaching higher than it has in many years.

Glenn took some pictures of Drummer over the weekend and I wanted to share a

couple with you. I'm attaching two to this email. I couldn't decide which one

to send, so I'm sending both! I'm going to try to send a third one separately.

I had just brushed him and that picture really shows off his gorgeous coat!

However, it's in a different program and I can't seem to get it loaded into

the file that I want. We have a new computer and things are set up

differently. Anyway, I'll try to send it separately.

Thanks for such a beautiful and fun-loving dog! He's got us wrapped around his

little tail that hardly ever stops wagging! LOL!

You're in my prayers with all of these litters coming along!

Love ya!

Mary :o)

Dolly and Tic Tac's New Litter~

Just thought you all might enjoy seeing Dolly's newborn puppies.  There is one silver male available.  His name is "Franklin".  Of course, if you decide to take him home to be your new baby, you can change his name to anything you would like.  LOL

"Watson" from North Tonawanda, New York~

Hi Sue,
Congratulations on the newest litter. They look wonderful. I am sure all new forever homes will be so happy with a High Calling Cocker. Best of luck on the other 3 expecting dogs. Makes me want to get another one. Take care and enjoy the summer, I am sure you will be very busy. I enclosed 1 picture of Watson. He was tired of me always sitting in the one chair during my recuperating time from surgery. Well I was getting ready to go back in the chair and he jumped in it and would not let me sit down. I think he was a little upset I slept alot the first 2 weeks. lol

God Bless and Happy Flag Day

Sweet Hummingbird Video~

I just thought you'd all enjoy this sweet hummingbird video~   :')

 Adorable Hummingbird Video

From Mary....Drummer's mommy in Grand Junction, Colorado~

Dearest Sue!

What BEAUTIFUL irises!!! They're gorgeous! Such pretty colors - all welcoming

springtime!

Alas, my irises are done for the season, but my roses are just picking up

steam. I have several pink rose bushes in front of my house that I just love!

I saw that Christmas wreath hanging there! LOL! I thought that maybe it was

too hard to take down, but a hummingbird nest is a very good reason to leave

it there! We had a hummingbird nest in our maple tree last year and we took a

video of the mother feeding the babies. And if you saw where Glenn was perched

while taking those pictures, you would have held your breath! LOL!

You put a teaser on your Puppy Information page! It says "Dolly's June Litter"

and it's her puppies from last September! LOL! Has she had her litter yet? I

pray that everything goes well for her.
We're doing well here. Drummer is enjoying waking Glenn up extra early and

then I take him for his morning walk once I'm dressed. When we get back he

settles in for breakfast and then I give him a good brushing. Once we're

through, he rummages in his toy basket to find either his ball or his mute

blue dragon (it lost it's squeaker!), or some other favorite of the day. Then

it's nap time until lunch! Ah, a dog's life!
I hope that you are doing well and that all of the puppies arrive safe and

sound!
I've attached a couple of pictures of the hummingbird babies that Glenn took

last year. I thought you might enjoy them.

God Bless!

Mary :o)

The Martin Home~ Spring 2011~

One of my birdhouses from Kim and Mike in Monson, Mass.
It has room for two pairs of birds...one on each side.  It's a "duplex"!  LOL
Notice the Christmas wreath still on the house.
I can't take it down because the hummingbirds have decided to nest in it. LOL

Another beautiful birdhouse from Woody's Woodworking.
This one even has a copper roof!  Sooo pretty!
Thank you, Kim and Mike!

I love this bird feeder.  I enjoy SO MUCH watching the birds outside my kitchen window!
It was a gift from Kim and Mike.
I thought I'd share some pictures with you that I took a couple of days ago, while I wait for puppies to be born. I've always wanted an iris garden, and the Lord has been very gracious to me.  I had good intentions to get out there and weed it this morning....but wouldn't you know, it is once again pouring rain out there, with thunder and lightening too!  We have barely been able to get the grass cut this spring.
A special "thank you!" to Kim and Mike Jurkowski of "Woody's" woodworking in Monson, Massachusetts, who graciously gifted me with the beautiful birdhouses and birdfeeder shown.  They are the parents of Natalie and Chloe. What wonderful friends they are!

Mike and Kim with their High Calling Cockers, Natalie and Chloe.

I love this picture!
