Spring is truly here. Besides my beautiful spring birds returning, (the robins finally arrived today), the bees are out, and my tulips are poking through. I was in a store the other day, buying dog food, and my eye caught the most beautiful magazine cover. I am a push-over for pink flowers, and beautiful quilts. This quilting magazine had an old fashioned look to it, and I absolutely had to have it. I took it home, and couldn't wait to look at all the lovely pictures inside. I began to read some of the articles as well. One after an another spoke about treating yourself. Over and over again, it spoke of making things for yourself....doing things for you. It bothered me. I closed it up. Certainly we all work hard, and no doubt earn some of the things we would like to have and of course, need. But we all know that there is nothing that builds us up or makes us happier than giving of ourselves to others. We all know that at Christmas time, we really could care less of what we "get". But we try very hard to make our loved ones happy, and nothing gives us more joy than seeing the expressions on our families' faces when they open the gifts we gave to them.
At our Lenten service last evening, our pastor's sermon was all about serving others. It confirmed what I had been feeling since looking through that magazine. And today, I was especially blessed. Not only is it a most beautiful day, weather-wise, I had the privilege of hearing a wonderful radio program today. Some of you know I enjoy listening to Pastor Brother's from Freedom Village USA, which is a home for "troubled teens" here in New York State. Today his program was entitled "It's not what we've done...it's what we could have done." I encourage you to take a few moments and listen to his message. It really lifted my spirit, and I hope it lifts yours as well. Just copy and paste this link into your browser, and look for the link to Thursday, March 11th. Just don't pay too much attention to his opening funny comments about the woodchucks. LOL He's just being silly.. LOL
